Hi All - I have recently receieved a request from the embassy asking me to appear for an interview at the L.A embassy. I had a few questions regarding this and as always any help from you all will be greatly appreciated.

1) Usually what are the chances of getting a PR if you are called for an interview.

2) If the interview goes well then how long will the whole process take

3) Is there any way to convince the embassy of my knowledge of english apart from taking the IELTS ( I have taken the TOEFL and got a score of 290 out of 300)

4) I will be traveling to the US from India for the interview so how long will I have to stay in the US after the interview as someone was telling me that if all goes well then I will have to surrender my passport to the embassy for some time

5) What is the best way to prepare for the interview e.g what questions can I expect (I have applied under the skilled workers category)

I know some of these questions are pretty loaded but as mentioned above any help is greatly appreciated

Here is a website that has given a detailed description as to what you have to know and how you can go about developing your strategies for your interview.

You might not come across all of the questions, but might be good idea to get a few straight answers for the questions in the large list of things. The more you know the better.

You should know more about the profession in your field and where the openings are and which companies you have to approach for a suitable opening based on their size and capacity. Their location, stock symbol and the dollar values and the profits and if possible the number of people working for them.

See if there is a Professional Association linked with your job and what it takes to get into their fold.

If after developing a strategy for the interview, you should feel prepared and not doubtful. If that is the case, then you will have butterflies in your stomach and you will be shaky at the time of the actual interview. So, go through the scenario a few times over with some one, who can conduct the same. At the time of interview, dress up well and carry ALL ORIGINAL documents and have all of the details at your fingertips and should be able to bring up a document from your files within a matter of seconds if not minutes, and not grope in your brief in a shaky manner. This where the rehearsal takes an important part.

I dont think the take the passport then and they request it later and they also mail it back. So that may require some planning on your part.
