Thanks everyone for yur reply...
dudewheresmycar --- What QA course and module u recommend /.. which tools should we focus more on /... how ll be the market in future for QA...
thanks...
Hitech has a general QA course that covers among other things automation tool QTP.. QTP is a good skill to have today for Software testers...
Mind u the course is very fast paced and u will need some guidance from a QA professional outside.. hopefull the faculty u get can help u guys.. but thats upto ur luck and the faculty u get..
Nobody can predict the future.. today it is not bad.. compared to working in McDonalds and tim hortons, it is a lot easier.. and the job needs no brains..

Hi Dude,
This is what my wife and I have shortlisted for her regarding the QA courses from University of British Columbia. Please advise, as per your experience. I too am in IT, but have never gone to the testing route. Here're the courses that my wife wants to start with:
1. Software and Systems testing
1.1. Practical case studies
1.2. Testing as part of the product life cycle,
1.3. Test paradigms, types and methods,
1.4. system testing, and an overview of selected testing tools, dynamics and other complexities.
2. Strategic test analysis and effective test case design
2.1. Test design phase of testing life cycle
2.2. Test case design techniques for both black- and glass-box testing including equivalence class partitioning, boundary value analysis, cause-effect diagram and decision tables. The course also covers test design activities and writing test design specifications including documenting test conditions, test cases, test scripts and procedures, and expected results.
3. Agile development Methodologies
4. Practical test automation
The above is what we have shortlisted. Could you please advise to the best of your knowledge in this area?
Thanks for your inputs. Really appreciate it.
Thanks for yur reply....really appreciate it...
lts helpful....yup i am plannin to do QTP too...lets see...
l am searchin for good institiute...as soon as i get one...ll let you know...and can get some more guidance from ya...
Thanks so much..
Here is the link for the course my wife took.
http://www.htinstitute.com/course_view.asp?cid=115&all_cid=45
The course contents is what any QA person needs to know.. plus a automation tool like QTP.. The hitech course covers the course content and QTP.. their training material is not bad...
The course content is just for show in reality the course is only 6 weeks so there is not enough time to go over the topics in detail..
Thats why a lot of offline support is required.
No risk no reward, Hiteck is the lesser risk compared to other intitutes which mostly run scams.. I will still say lot of people have taken the same course and have not got jobs..
What i did was asked my wife to work in Tim hortons , save the money and then use it pay for the course.. that way she was very eager to make her money count.. i had never seen her work so hard at understanding the course and working after the classes. Guess why because it was her hard earned money..
A bit of luck and lot of hardwork is the prerequisite...

They allow u to repeat the course if u are not satisfied and complain..
My wife took the QA course twice (2nd time was a repeat after complaints) last year and then she managed to get a internship in QA.. today she is working as a independent contractor making decent money.
Hitech did nothing to help in placement and any institute that gives out promises is lying..
i helped her with interview questions ( i have been in IT for 10 years ) and my contacts helped her get the internship..
Hitech or any QA course will only give u a overview .. u will have to put a lot of hardwork and need lot of guidance..
Is it the same institute that has a branch in Vancouver? I also contacted them for QA courses, but somewhat sceptical about private institutions. What is your view on it?

Very True...
Yes l ve been to the link yu provided....l see the course contents are quite good...
l would definitely think on it....and give it a try... l cudnt find the tuition fee structure there tho...may b i havent navigated site properly..'
Anyways thanks so much for yur help dudewheresmycar....
Appreciate it...
If you could throw more light..
1) Did your wife have any background in the field of QA or IT? And then when now she has found a job in that field, did she not require any work experience for the same?
2) You mentioned also about your wife allowed to take a repeat on complaint. Did you have to pay the fees again?
3) Did your wife do any COOP with the institute itself, before she got this internship?
Thanks for your help.
