I am sure there are some who will vociferously disagree with me, and those who see my point of view. When it comes to buying something, there is no right or wrong decision................. only the future will tell whether you were right (and then it is either too late, or a time to celebrate).
I have been driving American cars for several years. On the other hand, my immediate family (read........ brother, sisters etc) who live in the US, are die hard fans of Japanese cars............. so much so that they won't touch an American car!.
Firstly you need to ask yourself why you need a minivan, whether it is going to be affordable down the line, with the way gas prices keep going up all the time. If you answer is `yes`, then your next question should be `what are the alternatives?
The fact of the matter is this............. and any unbiased car mechanic will tell you this.
American cars are cheap when you buy them (they cost less), but down the line, they are prone to frequent repairs............ now then again the spare parts are cheaper than the Japanese ones, but won't last a third of a time they (the Japanese spare parts) do.
On the other hand, Japanese cars (or vans) cost more, but you will make fewer visits to the garage, down the line. Then again when you visit a garage for a repair, the spare parts cost more, but will last proportionately a longer time than the American one. Since the cost of labor is higher than the spare part itself, if you do the math, you save precious time and money when you buy a Japanese vehicle.
I have learnt from experience all of this................... and hope this helps!
