Oil loses its viscosity both with usage and time .. If I were you , I would get the oil change done upon return .... Get the tank filled as tanks do have a tendency to rust ... Disconnect battery for sure ...

The tip on insurance was great ... Thanks TK.

You might wish to google for tips on this .

If you use winter tires and temprature falls down enough before you leave. How about changing them before your vacation?

Another point that occured to me ... Do not forget to pump out your washer fluid if its water , other wise it will freeze .

Spoke with the insurance company and what they are saying is that I can get 90% of my liability (as thats all i have on my insurance) back. However when i suspend the insurance i will continue to pay the regular monthly premiums until i return and resume the insurance on my car. I will then start getting credit for any amounts either by getting reduced monthly payments or worst case a credit as cheque is my policy expires after i return.

Q: Does this sound right !? Ideally wouldnt i have to pay lesser premium while i am away and may be get back to the regular premiums upon resuming !? Any experiences !? I am with Meloche Monex and my auto insurance policy is about to expire in May.2010

Canot fully understand your statement, but you have a choice of cancelling your full insurance and then getting a new insurance after you come. TD monnex cancels insurance on the day you call to cancel (there is no 30 day wait time as in Rogers for example)
The downside is that currently TD Meloche monnex (and all other insurance companies) are increasing their premiums by 10-25 % in the GTA. Your premium atleast is frozen till May 2010 under your current agreement. When you apply for a new quote (after coming back), you will be quoted the new rate (irrespective of the insurance company).
So weigh the pro's and con's and decide.
The insurance guys are big cheaters and in Canada we donot have a competetive advantage (compared to India or USA).
Hope this helps.

Peace by a PD
