Hi Folks,
How is the Toyota Yaris car (Sedan)? Is it as good as the Corolla?
Any CD who is driving a Yaris, can you please share the feedback.
I am yet to decide between a yaris/corolla and Hyundai Accent, so looking for genuine feedback regarding these cars.
Also, is the website carcostcanada good for buying a new car? Is spending $40 worth it?
Thanks

if buying a first car in North America then look at the insurance also for each car as generally insurance is more for the smaller cars than bigger ones .
you can get the idea about the insurance on following websites
http://www.insurancehotline.com" rel="nofollow">LINK
http://www.pcinsurance.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK
http://www.kanetix.com" rel="nofollow">LINK
http://www.tdinsurance.com" rel="nofollow">LINK
you can google for more insurance companies ...
also you have to keep in mind the gas prices etc as well ....
All the best with you car ...
Here is an in-depth review on the Toyota Yaris from Canadian Driver
http://www.canadiandriver.com/testdrives/06yaris.htm
It essentially is a Toyota Echo, just re-branded with the Yaris name. My friend has had an Echo for years and she's had no problems with it.
Hope this helps.

Hi sumjo & others shopping for new cars,
CarCostCanada is a for profit company and is in league with the car dealers (albeit a few). I had been shopping for a new car myself and paid 40 bucks for the same. I got the invoice that was about 4000 less than the MSRP of the manufacturer and I got excited. I negotiated with a car dealer and was thus able to fix the price that gave a total of 2100 over the invoice price including all misc fees (a/c tax 100, Gas tax 400, Frt & PDI). The dealership wanted me to sign the deal there and then, I however withstood the pressure and told him I would be back on wednesday (as that is an auspicious day). On Tuesday, i was talking to a friend who always buys the cars of the make I was considering and asked him if his dealer would better the deal. He gave me another website ( http://www.apa.ca)" rel="nofollow">LINK where the membership is about 78$ inclusive of taxes.
Long story short, I thought there was no harm in confirming that I was getting a good deal at that expense. I was amazed at the quote from APA. They have pre negotaited with the dealerships and you don't have to be a good negotiater to get the best deal. they also tell you the mark-up up front. Armed with the new quote that was over a 1000 bucks less than the last negotiated price, i returned to the earlier dealership and told them that since they were nice to me and provided me with all the info on the car plus let me test drive it, I would give them the opportunity to beat the price I was getting at the other dealership through APA.
No one wants to lose business, so i ended up with a deal today that is 3100 less than their last quote. I could have them beat this too...but I want to give everyone the opportunity to earn their livelyhood honestly, so i signed the papers today. they are now making about 1100 in all.
The website again is http://www.apa.ca." rel="nofollow">LINK You are allowed 5 free quotes and each quote thereafter is $10. You can also use their services for trade-in pricing, buying used cars, insurance and repair/collision garage recommendations and hosts of other valuable information.
In regards to insurance, I have been with State Farm for last 5 years. Their service is good, but expensive too. I got a quote for my 2 cars for over 4K with them with both cars as pleasure use. Through Costco, I signed up with COSECO Insurance and I got a quote of 3009, which will drop by 10% once move my home insurance with them as well (apples compared to apples) and my new car permits business use (higher premium).
Hope my experience is of use to lots of members.

In continuation to Rajeevs suggestion I would like to suggest the following to you if your are from GTA.
There is a show on CTV on channel 24 on every Sunday at 9.00PM where there is a guy called Mohammed along with a mechanic who answers questions on car buying/comparison/technical problems very frankly. He answers question in a direct manner and explains the hidden problems. It is free call and you can talk to him with your questions.
He also has a website called carhelp.com and you can contact him through the telephone number to get details on the dealer pricing to get the best prices/best extra stuff thrown and also go for stuff required and not fancy stuff of no practical use.
I have been watching his show for the last 2 years and the recurrent theme I found in his advice has been if you are going for an entry level car you can go in for a Honda Civic or a Honda Fit.He likes the Toyota Corolla but finds the resale value for the Honda better due to the high Phillipono population as Toyota is a taxi car there and hence of no social status value. For a van he suggest Toyota Sienna and for the upper end he suggests Acura or BMV. He is against most of the North American cars, Volkswagon, Cadillacs and similar cars.
You can also give a shot in this route.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
