As per my understanding Sikh's were created from hindu's to fight foreign invaders(mughals etc)....not to create a new religion.
many hindu family gave their eldest son to fight foreign invaders...i think still this trend continuing atleast in some area's in punjab.
since when they considered themselve seprate from mainstream hinduism:?....they were/are protector of hinduism(their own religion)....so thet are all hindu...
I am a hindu and i visit both GuruGhar(gurudwaraa) and temple since my childhood...and never such idea came in my mind that gurughar is not for me
I can understand when few fundamentalist sikhs/politicians can consider themselves seprate from hindu's for their personal selfish benefits...but a true sikh supposed to know his/her history...it's not that old history..
I belive Jains/sikhs/budhhist we are all hindu.....

Jainism/Buddhism/Sikhism - all find their roots in Hindusm but have evolved as a separate religion, even IMO for Indian census. IIRC, few years ago, Sikhs in UK had asked to consider themselves as a separate ethnic group, separate from South Asian-Indian group.
I think you are wearing rose tinted glasses since a long time or living in denial. OMNI news recently showed news about people in Punjab now promoting Bhindranwale as a martyr and asking drivers to put his picture on vehicles.
IMO, Buddhist in Canada come from Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnaam/Korea too. Not many people in China would affiliate themselves to any religion due to the communist influence.
