Hi CDs

I always wanted to discuss this but inspired by the latest post from Hiren on the other thread I started this one .

Throughout my childhood I remember unable to understand the phenomenon of God. Distinctly recall in grade 3 when asked by a teacher I replied ' God is the name people give to their faith'

And that stands for me unshaken till this date .... God is a name we give to the unknown whom we wish to believe in - if I believe in a book , that is God to me , if I want to believe in a stone idol that becomes a God to me.

I had difficulty in understanding how God could have created man and the reasoning & logic given by different religions for eg in Hinduism they say that there are 84 lacs of species through which a soul must be reborn with in until it achieves human birth in which one can attain salvation.

The logical q that comes to one's mind is that how come 84 lacs .... then what happens to the species that have become extinct OR who knows how many more species are there in the Universe.

In Grade 12 we studied a book 'Lord of the Flies' in which a group of 10-15 school kids are marooned on an island and they make a deity of a head of a sow they have killed and start treating it as God ... and therein we can see that as they grow , taking that deity as a guide they fight and form groups ......... an ironical reflection of what happens in the adult world today...

My feeling is 'Man created God' and the worst thing is that because of the God and religion some other man created centuries ago , some innocent men lose their life w/o knowing and understanding what for .....

Did God create Man or Man create God ?? Please share your thoughts.

If you have time, please watch the series COSMOS - I believe it was recommended by FH to me. It will blow your mind and help you understand a lot of stuff that goes on.

Interestingly, the soul reborn theory you mentioned above is loosely similar to the evolution theory they state on this show.

In my opinion, there is no god, just the theory of life and survival until death. There are tons of lecturers who try to explain what is life and what is the purpose of life, where it came from, what you are destined to do etc.. etc.. but in the whole scheme of things, it just how you wish to utilize your time between birth and death. Do you want to die as a scientist, astronomer, politician, jihadist, priest, monk, writer, actor... is all your choice, until you die. Some die accidentally due to their own or someone else's carelessness, some for being at the wrong place at wrong time, some because their vital body parts have aged beyond repair. Those who adapt, are smart enough and alert enough, take necessary steps for survival, live longer. Those species/lineage moves forward - the weaker/lazy/unadapting species goes extinct.

The concept of god was introduced by man initially for noble purposes, but now being hijacked by the powerful for their own devious purposes.

I also find the constant questioning of who I am, why am I born, what is my duty, what is my destiny - are all 'khayali pulao' - the rumblings of an idle brain. If you are constantly busy trying to do what you enjoy the most, spending the living moments they way you want - these thoughts will not arise until you die.

Day in day out, so many people die of germs and infection etc. Why don't we die? Coz God is the creator and we hv everything so perfect to protect us till he wants us to live.

That is faith in the Almighty. Whn u pray for something and u get it, that is ur closeness to ur God.

HW36 ~ Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

If everything is so perfect than why are there diseases , war ,death , misery , poverty in the world ?

'Till he wants' ~ How does he determine this 'till he wants' ? Some religion give the reasoning of Karma and others promise 72 virgins after death

But that's religion and I wanted to discuss more God then religion , but it seems they are intertwined.

OK I agree about your faith in the Almighty but my q is ~ Is there really an Almighty or one created by man and being believed in and having faith in by others ? ... When you pray for something and you get it , you believe in God , what happens when you pray for something and you do not get it ?

Note : I have no intent to hurt anyone or anybody's religious beliefs.

There's also a very good book on this subject - The God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins. I am yet to read it.

The title reflects what it is - the greatest delusion on earth.

In my opinion, it's only human that created God for their own self-peace (whatever that is) and confirmation biases. For some of them, it's a mean to overpower and Governance, for other, a way to amass huge wealth on a false pretext. In all these historic times and decades, NO ONE produced a single evidence of God's existence.

There's a Science to everything around, whatever happens and doesn't. Nothing is created, born, dies in vacuum. You die, that's it. There's nothing beyond. You're born due to a bodily physical activity. Re-birth, Karma, Starsigns, haath ki rekha - Just a way for a some selfish bodies (Godmen) to earn their living.
