Hello,

I recently read on one of immigration forum that the expense related to your Permanent Residency process is non taxable for next income tax year in Canada. For example if some one has started/finished PR process in year 2009/2010, he can claim expense in Canada for 2010 tax return. Is it true? I am not able to find it on CRA website.
Also we have filed tax return for year 2009, can we still claim this expense in 2010 Tax return?

Thanks.

YOU DID NOT READ.....

Costs of immigration are generally considered personal expenses, and are NOT deductible from the income earned here in Canada. If it is deductible, then deduct it from the income earned in the country where you lived prior to Immigrating into Canada.

But what will happen if you spend the money while living and working in Canada. Can then this be considered as expense?

Hope I could tell you link or any reference, as I am also looking for it. Its just on other forum that one member was adviced by accountant in Canada that if he is landing in 2010 as PR, all his fees (medical, visa, moving..) would be deducted in Tax Return of 2010.

They say that they do not have it anywhere in their systems as a deduction.

That is confirmed as of your posting.
