Map of : http://www.mapquest.com/maps?zipcode=N5A+4M9
Education : In the map above you will have a drop box with a scholarly hat for the schools. If you click on it they will appear. If you click on the + sign on the map, it will give all of the finer details with street names etc.,
The city's three secondary schools are:
Stratford Central Secondary School,
Stratford Northwestern Secondary School,
both part of the Avon Maitland District School Board, and
St. Michael's Catholic Secondary School, which is part of the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board.
The population of Stratford is about 30,000 people. A few that I know lived there seasonally and left for the greener pastures when the winter season arrived. About 20 families are there in total to my last count. Things have changed a lot. I have not kept pace with the location. But I do visit from time to time and when I am there I have bite at the Madelyn's Diner, one of the Martin girls used to run it for a few years. They have been friends of ours, for a very long time.
The life style is easy going and more active during the spring and when the summer arrives they have the Shakespear Festival. It is a must for Theater lovers and those who want to see the plays and some return every year to see it. Cost of living is a lot cheaper than the big cities, but you will find that the heating in any home is insufficient when the winter sets in.
Transport to and from is good and you have a few buses running every day. PMCL had a service now Cherry bus lines are operating. Here is the local bus service with in Stratford. : http://www.city.stratford.on.ca/site_ourcitylife/getting_around_local_transport.asp
The closest Indian Groceries are around Steels in Toronto and in Waterloo also. A bit long distance, but that is the only way you can get a few items personally. If you make a deal with the Indian Shop Keepers you can get Can Par to deliver them for you.
A lot of winter activities are held and they are very close by. So, you might get to enjoy a few days in the winter. The people get into indoors and might not get to see many on the streets except at meal hours or on sunny days. It becomes a dead city during those days, so be careful if you select that location for extended stay. Mississauga might suit your needs as regards the stay and also for schools. Jobs are a lot easier to search and find here and might also land one close by, if and when the job markets open up. More activities and a lot of life in the city here.
Welcome back, after you make up your mind and make the leap.
Freddie.
