These are 2 of the biggest Indian languages...hindi is spoken by millions of people and is the national language and the future. Tamil is spoken in many countries apart from India and full of rich culture. These need to be promoted. I see websites like youtube, google and------having good free resources for these. But not enough research is being done and its not made easy. Even rosetta stone is not that great. ------- is trying to improve this aspect though.

I am a Tamil and one who was not taught Hindi.
My personal belief is that both these languages are useless in the business world of the 21 st. century.
English is the foremost business language and this should be the language of the future for India. Already Tamil Nadu is the leading proponent of English and most people in Tamil nadu know English ( I would say almost 80% of the population in Chennai can speak good English). That is why it is a leading destination of MNC’s though it has bad climate and severe water scarcity as well as it being the most conservative state in India.
I feel the following languages should be the forefront for the world.
1. English
2. French.
3. Arabic (for it’s oil wealth)

Though Tamils speak Tamil in SL, Singapore, South Africa, Guyana, Malaysia, they are the most marginalized community in those countries. Just b’cos they refused to part with Tamil, they have been marginialised in their respective countries. So Tamil has not been good to Tamilians (though it is a very cultuarally rich language).

One of the reasons for north and South Indians for not having been able to business is because of this Hindi-tamil problem. The south does not want to learn Hindi – the business language of India. If only the whole of India spoke Hindi, we would have been able to compete with China in this age.

some of the points raised are good. But all the languages you listed were for some "reason" or the other. If India is one of the top developing nations dont you think people might start to recognize India and be intrigued by its languages and could be a snowball effect for Indian languages.
BTW, TamilNadu for one enforces Tamil even on tourists and are strict about it. How then can you claim Tamil Nadu govt is promoting English? Agreed people in Chennai and other towns do speak English. Same is the case with Karnataka and other states.

Also another reason for these languages not to develop is due to the fact that there is no cross communication between different language speaking people. Technology should enable this. Sites like -------are still in the budding stage and have a long way to go before this happens. Once this happens language will not be a hindrance and a person from J&K can talk to someone in Kanyakumari etc. Then internal trade will prosper. At that point we do not need the English or Arabic or other language countries. we have strength in numbers...and the recent past shows how we are using it to our advantage.
Hopefully ------and other new technologies will make it easy to translate. thats all that is needed , a small catalyst.

Also note one thing, people are very passionate about their language, culture, religion etc. So I dont see any of these popular indian language dying away. Media and economy do play a role to influence any society....we were ruled by the british hence English is prevalent...but they still could not erase our languages or culture like they did in many countries in africa etc. What if we were ruled by the spanish or portuguese? Where would we have been? probably like Algeria or some other north african country where french is spoken. But we were/are not so weak as a nation/culture. Our languages have been and will be around for a while to come....technology needs come up with a solution...maybe an iphone talking app to translate a colloquial hindi or tamil (including the local slangs depending on lat/long).

ohhhh....its a coming! Where will we be then?

What do you say Mr.Tamilkuravan? Where will India be then? Where will the world be then?
