With due apologies to all seniors in the forum, let me point out a mistake many of us Indians routinely commit. We use phrases like "One of my friend", "One of the faulty government policy" etc. using singular, whereas the correct usage is "One of my friends", "One of the faulty government policies" and so on. See, it is out of many, one - just like the phrase on America's Official Seal :-)

Internet; Chat world; blog world; facebook; has totally screwed up english..
& I am not at all worried (or sorry) for that...

The reason being britishers have shoved their language to the whole world over the last couple of centuries..... to the extent "That people feel ashamed now to talk use their own language"....

In very near future (say couple of century; many regional languages will get extinct)....

So in my opinion- this is the only way to punish english language (& its happening very fast; screw them up & facebook/twitter is doing a great job)

I agree with this word to word...
BTW, for those who admire English language a lot, for those who think English is UNIVERSAL language, WIDELY spoken language.... Its all bullshyt...
For your kind information, Mandarin (Chinese) is the most widely spoken language on our planet Earth.
Spanish is the second and English comes on number three...
Hindi/Urdu on number four...

I live in the Chinese dominated area in GTA, I see every single person in library reading (a book or newspapper) in Chinese language. They visit websites that are in Chinese language. They use Chinese language on their gadgets (cellphones, laptops)...
I felt very bad when I noticed that Google maps lables major Chinese cities names in Chinese and English both, Pakistani cities in urdu, Middle East cities in Arbic, Even Nepali cities in Hindi... BUT our Indian cities are only labled in English although Hindi is our national language....
Our own people tend to adopt English over their native languages. I agree that it is because of British infulence, but there are example of many contries which adopted back their native language after Britishers left...
Smaller countries such as Israel, Korea, Japan have computer keyboards by default in their own language, while it will not be easy to find a keyboard in Hindi in India.
just FYI

It may not matter on an online forum but I do think in many settings by using poor English you are punishing yourself and not the English language. If you want to take a stand not using English is probably a better one.

I admire that Quebec has maintained its use of the French language, but then they've largely done that by forcing francophones and immigrants to use it with no choice to attend English language schools. Poor Ireland lost it's language completely (well they say it is still alive but less than %5 can really speak it).

I dont agree.
Language is fluid, not static. We use language to define the way we see the world. The world today is different than that of one generation ago.

Entire academic disciplines are dedicated to the study of language and how people use them, and how they change and why.

Evolution of language, technology, values, traditions etc are necessary and keep human awareness moving forward.

Stopping the evolution of language isnt growth. Learning, opening one's mind is growth.

Yes, most of us tend to think in our native language and THEN try to translate it into English. I have heard senior professionals in my company telling their staff to 'remove' a copy of a document when they wanted a copy of the document 'made' or 'scanned' or just printed.

The point i was originally making was certainly not to favour propagating English as a universal language. Nor do I believe that the English as spoken in European or American continent is the 'proper' English language. In fact, I have read English written by some Indian scholars that is far superior in both composition and semantics than that of an average Englishman.

By the way, do you all know that since the British Army days, our army has found a way to handle the problem of jawans coming from some parts of the country not being able to read Hindi alphabets? They simply write the instructions in 'Roman Hindi'! (In simple words, it is Hindi words and sentences written using English alphabets) :D
