Hi
My mother suffers from terrible knee pain, and after exhausting all other options, the doctor has finally decided to go in for a knee replacement surgery. He is recomending Apollo for the surgery, which is going to cost about 5lacs INR.
Need feedback on the following:
- Which is the best hospital in India for these kind of surgeries?
- What are the success ratios?
- Is this replacement permanent or temperory (5-7 yrs)?
- Any other non-invasive techniques that can be tried out?
Thanks

I personally know of two cases where one of them calls it success other one still has a lot pain on the operated knee and not going for the surgery on right leg now. He has to wear one shoe with little high heel. Both the surgeries done at the Apollo hospital.
I think it is still hit or miss.
I know few person one is my aunt and other is our neighbour in India, They are doing good for last 4 years. They had a surgery in 2006. Nowadays in India mini metro cities there are lot of ortho surgens this kind of surgeries and costs about 3 to 4 lacs instead of going to big hospitals like Apollo which is good but costly. As per them the guarantee is for 10 years but it can be good for 15 years if proper care has been taken
My mother has knee replacement done at Wockhardt Hyderabad. Its been 4 yrs and she is doing great. Last week she traveled 18 hrs in car. Before replacement, she got that special injection into knee. It worked fine for a couple of months. Knee replacement is common now a days. But you have to think of physio after the operation. Physio will take almost a month to fully recover and start walking without a stick.
By the way 5 lakhs may be a bit expensive. It cost me 2 lakhs(one knee).
Appreciate all the feedbacks. Any idea whether any Ayurvedic medicine can help in a situation like this........i am just trying to avoid the invasive surgery, if possible......
