Hi folks, is there any CD from mumbai who can give me some more information - my mum is going to mumbai for a Cataract surgery and i am looking for a good hospital with experienced doctor. Unfortunately she is not covered with OHIP so no choice to bring her here. I need to know website or name of good hospital (affordable fees) in mumbai.

Any idea how much can cost a cataract surgery in mumbai? I have a friend in Sion mumbai and she told me to send my mum overthere. pls advice good hosptial for eyes surgery in mumbai. thanks for your assistance

I am not too sure of the rates going currently, however I am from Ghatkopar and I had my moms cataract performed atleast 3 years ago , which had costed Rs 25000, this was from a very reputable Dr in Ghatkopar, Dr VCMehta, very knowledgeble, Sr Dr.
There are many DR's in Mumbai for this, and it is normally prefered in the vicinity you reside. However it should certainly not cost more than Rs 40000.
That is CAD 1000 roughly.

Just be careful. Try to go via recommendations rather than cost. There are many private 'nursing homes' run by reputable doctors. The problem is that the 'reputable doctors' spend a bulk of their time in 'reputable hospitals' leaving their nursing homes in the hands of less than reputable staff.

My brother contracted a serious viral infection and was initially admitted in one such 'nursing home' while my family made arrangements to have him transferred to a good hospital. There was another patient about 18-19 yr old alongside my bro. They were in the same stages of the disease. The boys family did notknow better about the quality of care in such private/not too cheap either, 'nursing homes' and the guy died within a week while my brother recovered fine in a good hospital.

You probably know better, and maybe this is not relevant to a cataract operation, but I thought I'd put this as a warning about the many 'nursing homes' in Mumbai. I dont know about the other cities though.
