Hello cd members
my 3 yr old son has dental pain and appointment is fixed for dental surgery

but in dec ,antibiotics(only for a week ) were prescribed for the tooth pain but its still bad

now my question here is "is there any way we can prepone this surgery date as i donot want to give my son medicines everyday to soothe the pain "

.A specialist has been booked for the treatment as regular treatment was not possible on the child ,and he is available only in dec so my son has to bear the pain till then ?????????? or is there any other method available

pls advice

I would suggest you speak to you dentist and tell them you would like to see another specialist. If not, go to another dentist.

If you are able to tell what is the problem, maybe CD can suggest a dentist / specialist to you. What type of surgery is this? Root canal?

Another suggestion - pick up the yellow pages and look for pediatric dentist. Check their ratings on ratemds.

All the best.

Is socialized health care better in India? If these responses are just to suggest that you can buy better dental care in India, you can buy better dental care here too.

Dental care is not covered under the Canada Health Act and was never covered by any of it's predecesors. It isn't covered by OHIP unless it is emergency surgery performed in a hospital. In many municipalities it IS covered for children under 18 whose families are on social assistance (Ontario Works, ODSP, etc.). I'm not judging if you're on welfare, but if you aren't on welfare you can call any specialist and book the appointment without a referal.

The socialized health care system has problems, it always has. Increase in life span and the aging population contribute to these issues but are hardly the core issue - a small minority of older people over use the system, doctors over treat because they are paid by fee for service and there are no checks and balances in place to determine which interventions are necessary. Our wait times and user satisfaction are on par with other socialized health care systems though Scandinavian countries rate better.

For those who think health and dental are worse here, I'm curious, aren't there millions of people in India without health or dental coverage? Do you really think it's worse here? Or is it just worse for people who would be wealthy in India? These questions are for the later posters, the original poster didn't suggest that dental care, which is not covered by OHIP, is related to problems with the health care system.

For the original poster: I understand you are just concerned for your child and so I urge you to find another practitioner, if you are paying you have the right to. If there isn't one available in your area check other areas nearby, some dental surgeons who do not specialize in pediatrics will see children. If you are not paying, sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease - call your social worker and see if other practitioners are covered. They are often over worked so you have to self advocate (now social services, there is a very poorly funded and messed up Canadian system - it is very uneven across the country and even within the same city!).

In socialised healthcare (esp. in Canada) there is no check on the double or triple dipping. I see that you can visit the doctor whenever you can and all doctors fix appointments when it is not needed. When you visit a doctor, they fix a follow up appointment (say after 2 months) when it may not be necessary at all. The only way to fix it is by making Canadians pay up atleast 10% of the cost. Then only the system will be effective and as well as it will make immigration very less.
Another idea is to bar family sponsership as people sponser all old people who have terrific health problems and drain / exploit the system.
Peace

I haven't thought about your proposed solutions before, and my whole life I've been taught paying for health care is unjust, but I completely agree with you about what the problem is and I will give what you have said more thought.
