I have been offered a job in IT sector in Toronto for about 70 K. I have abt 5yr s of experience in code developement. I am currently working in uSA.
How much will i get in hand after tax cuts?
What i would like to know is it sthg which an avg IT person with 5 yrs will get in Canada?
will it be enough to lead a comfortable life in toronto without pinching pennies? There is this thought in my mind that i am being too greedy but then other thought feels if i am staying away from home(india) then i better get a good deal.
Thanks for your inputs
Actual data for us for the month of Aug 2010. For thrills, I wanted to track every penny on a daily basis and this is what we had in Aug:
Mortgage - $1738.37 (includes property taxes)
Home insurance (residence plus rental) - $150.03
Auto insurance (two vehicles) - $215.18
Electricity - $204.21 (was a hot month with lots of AC)
Gas - $71 (am on equal billing)
Water - $129.90 (for 2 months)
Phone - $48.03
Internet and long distance - $55.53
Car service related - $78.42
Fuel for cars - $235.59 (100% of gas filled in MI)
Groceries - $245.12 (90% of groceries shopped in MI)
Eating out, movies, entertainment - $66.93
Commuting related expenses (toll, tokens) - $140.00
Gifts and books - $68.74
Daycare - $64.80
Back to school supplies and clothing - $111.99
Photo orders/photocopies/newspaper - $20.91
Haircuts and such - $16.68
Total - $3681.34
Gives you an idea what the expenses can be. Fuel is much more expensive in Canada and we save by filling up in the US. There will obviously be unexpected expenses in some months.

Good one but pretty high I would think. That is just a lot of expenses considering it is Canada and not Paris or Hong Kong.

The details given below do not give an overall picture - since they do not include things that you pay once a year or rather not on a monthly basis. A few of them could be like:
1. vacations/travel to home
2. wardrobe additions
3. medicines
4. house repairs and maintenance
5. furniture replacements/additions etc. etc.
and they all can be big expenses. In my case, these alone come to about 20k a year.
