How much will i get in hand after tax cuts?
What i would like to know is it sthg which an avg IT person with 5 yrs will get in Canada?
will it be enough to lead a comfortable life in toronto without pinching pennies? There is this thought in my mind that i am being too greedy but then other thought feels if i am staying away from home(india) then i better get a good deal.

Thanks for your inputs

Actual data for us for the month of Aug 2010. For thrills, I wanted to track every penny on a daily basis and this is what we had in Aug:

Mortgage - $1738.37 (includes property taxes)
Home insurance (residence plus rental) - $150.03
Auto insurance (two vehicles) - $215.18
Electricity - $204.21 (was a hot month with lots of AC)
Gas - $71 (am on equal billing)
Water - $129.90 (for 2 months)
Phone - $48.03
Internet and long distance - $55.53
Car service related - $78.42
Fuel for cars - $235.59 (100% of gas filled in MI)
Groceries - $245.12 (90% of groceries shopped in MI)
Eating out, movies, entertainment - $66.93
Commuting related expenses (toll, tokens) - $140.00
Gifts and books - $68.74
Daycare - $64.80
Back to school supplies and clothing - $111.99
Photo orders/photocopies/newspaper - $20.91
Haircuts and such - $16.68

Total - $3681.34

Gives you an idea what the expenses can be. Fuel is much more expensive in Canada and we save by filling up in the US. There will obviously be unexpected expenses in some months.

Impressive! Did you miss Cable and Cellphone? man what kind of day care it is just $64 per month...I will actually move to windsor. Also insurance is rate isgood for 2 vehicles. PM the name if you don't mind. so Newbee10 add 15 to 20% if you are living in Toronto.

Thanks.

Daycare was for only 2 days. But a monthly care would range from $600 to $750 if done on a fulltime basis.

We don't have cell phone or cable. The cell phone we have is a business phone paid by the employer. We barely watch TV and hence opted out of the dish or cable and such.

Auto insurance is Gore Mutual. I recently checked few rates and I could get cheaper rates that would save me about $20 to $30 a month, but then I have to spend time to provide US driving records dating back to the early 90s. Anyway, the rates include loyalty discount (been with them since 2002), multiple vehicle discount and discount since we carry home insurance with them as well.

Good one but pretty high I would think. That is just a lot of expenses considering it is Canada and not Paris or Hong Kong.

The details given below do not give an overall picture - since they do not include things that you pay once a year or rather not on a monthly basis. A few of them could be like:

1. vacations/travel to home
2. wardrobe additions
3. medicines
4. house repairs and maintenance
5. furniture replacements/additions etc. etc.

and they all can be big expenses. In my case, these alone come to about 20k a year.

good point. So I think everyone should divide the 20 K or whatever it is and divide by 12 so in that case the bills mount !
