Every year lots of indians come in canada with a hope of getting peace, security, luxury life in canada. How far is this true? If you ask anyone in canada who lives for more than 5 years will not be able to say honestly. But it is true, that the crime rate in canada and especially in toronto is rising very high. Govt\law is just failed to control the security and safety in this country where nothing is stable. Nor weather, nor safety, nor life. But still we live beacause we see life in terms of money. In india we wanted to get rid of greedy govt. but here the position is more worst. See the income tax structure, the tax on goods. Govt takes money from you from every possible source and we pay. The people don't have time to ask.....

Hemal ji,
As mentioned before, if you have / get a good paying job here then it is easy to settle down. If you donot get a good paying job then it is very hard for you to settle dowm even after 5 years.
In my example, i am here for 4 years and i donot have a good paying job ($12.5 an hour for 44 hrs. but work 60-80 hrs. a weel). for me , i canot say that i have settled down. But i canot go elsewhere at this point of time due to many factors/ probs...
So it really comes down to a good high paying job. Whether an immigrant makes it or not depends on his education, exp., situation, luck, contacts , networking etc... You just canot find that out from India. Only if you come here , you can find that out.
There are many not so clever people earning 60K a year (I am talking outside IT) and there are very clever people from ME, best colleges in India etc... who still canot find a good job.
So it is a ll subjective and depends on the situation.
Just for e.g., we have a one "Charlie" in this forum. HE is from a very , very reputed govt. college in India. if he had worked in Relaiance now, his CTC would be atleast 16-25 lakhs. but in Canada, he stuggled without a good job for not 1 or 2 months but 2.5 years. By WAFY's help, he has got a good job in Winnipeg. But for a experienced guy like him to struggle in Toronto for 2.5 years is simply not acceptable. If he had not met WAFY, he still would be searching for a job inspite of upgrading himself at his cost in Canada.
There are also examples of people, who got rs. 6000 in India and in Canada tehy are getting 50K (i know one such person)

I met one person in USA in year 2000 and his salary was $160000 per year and he made this much from last 5 years. He was well educated(M.Tech from Govt engg college or from REC) but as per technical skills and expertise are concerned he was just average.
So I guess there is some luck part as well as per as making money is concerned.
He was always about money(he even use to make money in stock market when not on assignment) and most of the time he use to get free corporate apartment and free rental car, free lunch as well (at actuals).

Ram ,
I donot agree with you. Remember being from REC, IIT, Anna University does not make you a great person, though you are more likely to be a great person . Govt. colleges have to admit on basis of quota too. Also the prof's are better than people from self financing colleges. In self finacing colleges the teaching is not that great and people with good IQ (but otherwise unlikely to get admission in Govt. colleges) develop on their own. I remember the HOD of Comp. Sci. dept of a self finacing college was just 26 years old. Then think of the rest of the professors.
Even in REC (where i came from), The HOD of comp. sci. was just 28 years old. No good person comes for teaching comp. sci.. so the people learn on their own.But REC's have a good library and computer systems.IN My batch of comp. sci. students (1989-93) , there were 40 people. 20 were clever, 10 average and 10 very dull. The dull 10 people did not get any job for 2 years after they graduated. One of the dull guy was my best friend and he worked for rs. 800/ month in a company in 1995. Today he is a PL of Satyam earning 30 lakhs or so per year and flying to USA at will for implementation. He told me that even in satyam he did not learn what the rs. 800 per month co. taught him.

Sidenote : My friend in NY told me taht a PL with BA qualifications in LA earned around160K. He lived on food from guruthuwars's and used to stay in a 2 in 1 room sharing. He owned 3 houses in LA and got rent from them. What does this person think that he will achive? This is a true incident and i am not making this up.

Ram,
In Canada, luck plays the most important factor. In USA Luck does not play that important matter. In India, Luck does not play any part.
In USA, Many IT recruiters are desi's. If they see a person with REC qualifications and Self financing college qualificatins, they naturally will think taht the REC guy will be a better guy in all respects. When they interview both the guys they will know who is the better one. If it was the REC guy, they will immediately recruit the guy. if the other guy did the interview better, they will try to reason out why the REC guy did not do well. if tehir reasoning is fair, then they will kick the REC guy out.
In india, however experienced the guy is the people pick the people from govt. engg. college first (esp. true as far as NOn IT jobs are concerned.)
In Canada, it is Luck, Luck, Luck and nothing else wrt all professions. These people canot differentiate between various colleges in India.
