my two year old has a bad cold ,doc says let it be no medicine ,now its turning into cough ,all over the counter medicines say not to give to child below 6 years,so now have to look for home remedies ,any suggestions .
i am giving him steam and also haldi milk ,applying baby vicks ----

If you get tulsi leaves, fudina leaves and ginger. Boil them in milk filter it and give 3 times a day. Don't give yogurt and banana for a week. This will reduce cold

The doctor is right. One thing you need to be careful that his chest should not be congested. Give him some steam. If he does not take it, open the shower very hot (do not put him under water), he will get steam out of the shower steam. Applying vicks on his chest is also good idea.
Treatment is totally symptomatic.If there is mild fever or headache give calpol(paracetamol in syrup form for children).Karvol inhalation is very good or else put karvol on a handkerchief and put it on child's pillow.Look at child's throat,if it looks fiery red give some ginger juice mixed with honey.Get normal saline from the pharmacy and put 2 drops in child's each nostril,it opens the airways.
Steam is good and so is few spoons of joshandey if any of your Indian friend has it.
Cold has to run it's full course of 4-6 days,just try and make child comfortable.
