This crook, the so called gora Supervisor came from another company and new to our company. We both are working at same location. Yesterday, we both got our pay checks and while I am looking at my pay stub, this guy came from his seat to me and had a quick look at my rate of pay in pay stub and gone to his seat back. I know, he has no idea, how much I am paid by my company and I didn't understand that why he has to come to me to look at my pay stub, when I didn't talk to him about it. After the incident, he started behaving very odd until next hour and as he knew that what he did was wrong.
I was also upset about this incident, as no body in Canada peaked into my pay stub and this incident disturbed me a lot.
Now my question is whether I have to leave it or complain to my management about this? If I complain, whether this fellow being a Supervisor will get me into trouble in future? because he is supervisor, whether Management takes his side? We both are pretty new to this company and how the Management takes the whole story?
Any inputs from fellow desis.
A supervisor is supposed to know the rate of pay of his subordinates and hence it is no big deal. If you feel that he has no right to do this, then may be he is NOT your supervisor.
By Supervisor, I mean that you have to do the job that he gives (that means that you listen to him) and he is responsible for your overtime, time sheets, leave etc...
have you thought that may be he looked at your pay stub to ensure that you were paid correctly and that you were paid as per the number of hours that you worked and may be not the std. 37.5 or 40 hours a week.
A supervisor has the right to fire you or request the management to fire you (giving no reasons) and hence I donot find this a big deal. May be you can give a heads up to the managment or your supervisor's boss if he starts misbehaving with you.
Salary information is confidential in many places where you are paid an annual salary but your supervisor already knows how much you earn.
Hope this helps.
Peace

I guess u expect the only person who should know ur pay is the Payroll admin
Supervisor has right to know your pay....but some companies work differently. In some companies, only Head of department should only know the salary of people working in same department.
If he had mandate to know your salary then there would have been no need for him to take a peak at your paystub.
The way you explain it, it seems that he is in the wrong. You could inform HR/boss but the real question is does it matter? You may not get much in return even after complaining. It boils down to internal politics of your company.

I think its in employers interest to ensure people don't know each other's salary but in employees interest to share this information
First try to find out if your company's policy specifically prohibits discussing your salary with coworkers and others. You may have a case if it is specifically prohibited though pursuing it is your call.
In some companies supervisors enter the hours in the payroll system, so if it is such a scenario they may already know how much you make!
