I am new landed immigrant along with my spouse on 12 th Dec 2010 .I went to my home country India for 29 days in Jan and returned back to Canada in Feb. My delivery is expected in last week of April and I want to know
1. Should I file my Income tax return for myself and my husband for year ended 31 st dec 2010 . Return would be Nil if we wud file it.Is there any canadian child tax benefit that we wud get ? Any benefit to myself and my husband ?
2. If For any reason I move to my home country India in August or Sep 2011 and do not return back in coming 2 yrs, wud I continue to receive those benefits if any mentioned in point no 1.

You have to file return every year to get child tax benefit. This benefit is given only after the child is born.

Yes both are supposed to file returns for the year ended 31-Dec-2010
As mentioned by Desi # 1, Child Tax Benefit is only available after the child is born. At that point you have to fill in the CTB form to inform CRA of the child's birth

When you return back / leave the country for an extended period you need to inform CRA. Again as Desi # 1 mentioned, CTB is calculated each year based on your annual income and is payable from July to June
