Be cautious while talking to unknown over telephone. There are lots of scams going on. A couple of weeks ago somebody called at my home and said that he is calling from the Credit card company and they are going to send a new chip card and want to confirm the expiry date of the card and address so that they can mail a new chip card.
My wife declined to give any info so he was still insisting that if she doesnt provide any info it will cause a lot of delay in sending a new card and inconveniency etc. etc. When he was told to give their no. and informed that we will call back after confirmation to them he gave the no. (1-800---) no. of the company and when we inquired at the same no. about the call they did not have any idea. Next day company called me after confirming that no one of such call was made to us.
looks like it is a scam
I got the same call as well recently. He offered an ipod and two free t-shirts. He said I would receive a call shortly and to write down the code. As soon as I hung up I got a call from craigslists ( craisgslist's ) automated system. It gave me a code. After some digging it appears this is a common scam. Certain sections or account creations in craigslists require a phone confirmation before you can post an ad. The scammers just go through the phone book and call people promising them prizes if they provide them the code...lol.... Do not provide them with the code as the ad will trace back to you and whatever problems that might entail.
cheers
