I had insurance and canclled in nov 2010 because i was not well and my driver license was placed under medical suspension for about 4 months. Never had any accidents and have been driving since 16 years, clean record. Now when i called 2 insurance companies, they are giving me quotes of 500$ per month which i cannot afford. They say that due to the lapse (gap), they are not able to give me a normal rate. They are telling me to sell my car and get another one. But is that really what i have to do. I am desperately in need of help on this from all experienced desis.

Check with some insurance brokers ?

I recently got auto insurance from Allstate through broker and I shall be paying $100.00 less pm than what I would have paid with my present insurer upon renewal.

Call 1 800 268 7315 and talk to this brokerage, they work with Aviva Insurance company and you should be able to get good rates with them in your situation.
