Dear DESI friends,
I am a landed immigrant of canada since 1999 but my P.R. card expired in November 2009 and not renewed up to now. At present I am in India due to ill health of my wife.I want to travel to USA to see my son in next month .I am going to live there for one month only.I have got valid US VISA (Expires in 2014) and Indian Passport (Expiry in Oct 2012). I took US VISA in 2004 from OTAWA and there is annotation on my VISA as "Landed immigrant of CANADA"
Can any body preferably immigration expert clear whether there would be any problem due to this annotation for my entry in USA by air from Mumbai to Raleigh (USA).I mean is there any risk for me of rejecting and asking me to return back by Immigration officer at US airport on arrival. At present I am facing such situation that I can not apply for renewal of my PR card or come back to Canada on travel document at least for one more year.
Kindly contribute your views.

You have all valid documents to enter the US. As much as I can throw the caveat that the entry into the US is at the discretion of the officers at the POE, I don't see any issues for you. If they do bring up the note about landed immigrant notation, simply state in as few words that you no longer reside in Canada due to family issues and your purpose is to visit your son in NC.
As long as ur son is legally present in USA u should not have a problem..
Best to carry documents suggesting ties to india that will suggest u will go back to show at port of entry.
Dear Dimple 2001,
Once again thank you for proper guidance. I am now on visit to USA for seeing my son and grand children.Immigration office at POE did not ask me any question about annotation of " Landed immigrant of Canada" nor he asked for showing PR card (which is expired) as you predicted.
I am in similar kind of situation.
My parents PR cards has expired. They are in Canada currently. How we can get it renewed quickly as they want to visit my brother in US. My brother will be picking them from here and they will travel by car to US. As per CIC, they do not need PR card if they are travelling on their own vehicle.
But issue is their return, they will be either coming by bus or by AIR (commercial transport). Would CIC consider, a bus ticket as valid proof of travel to get the PR card issuance expedited. Has anybody gone thru similar situation?
