Hi,
My husband's passport(Indian citizen) is getting expired(after 10 yrs validity) in Aug 30th 2011.
We would be going for a vacation and return by March 2011.
He's planning to get his VISA stamping at Buffalo.
Can any of you please help me on the following issues ?
1) He's planning to apply for the passport renewal(after 10 yrs expiry) during his vacation time in India .
Provided he gets his new passport in hand before Mar 2011, would it not be a problem while re-entering in Canada ?
Are they any constraints like passport should be valid for 190 days for re-entering in Canada ?
2) If he gets his VISA stamped on the old passport, would it be sufficient
if he carries both old and new passport for the travel ?
3) Is it possible to obtain a 10 yrs valid passport by applying at Indian Consulate in Toronto ??
Please help !!!
what is your husband's immigration status here?
If he is on temporary resident permit and trying to get a VISA stamp at Buffalo, then they issue only upto Aug 31, 2011 or expiry of his temporary residence permit whichever is earlier. If your husband obtains new passport ... still this VISA is valid till it's expiry.

A few thigs confusing \"Why stamping at Buffallo? Does he have USA visa? Does he have Canadian PR?\" Your input can bring you more responses.
If he is Canadian PR, Indian consulate won't issue PP for 10yrs. May be for 2-3yrs maximum, untill he becomes qualify for CAN CITIZENSHIP. If he has lived in Canada for 2 years , then he will get 1-2yrs only. If he has lived for almost 3 years then better he apply for Authority letter from CAN CITIZENSHIP and IMMIGRATON confirming he has not applied for CAN CITIZENSHIP yet. It cost some $ and takes some time too. Without that Indian Consulate won't issue pp from Toronto, possible may be not from Indian mission. At the end of the day he my face trouble.
Thanks Humrahi and gurram !!
A small information- My husband appeared in-person at Buffalo and got the visa stamped on the same day .
For myself, they suggested us to use representative form and get the visa stamp on the same day .
