Welcome to Canada.

Plan to settle in GTA, Ontario ( Toronto, Markham, Scarborough, Mississauga, Brampton etc) or in Vancouver, BC .. for finding a job without too much difficulty or to setup your own business.

Ha! Ha!
Welcome to Canada. No to discourage you, but based on my personal experience, I have found that 8 out of 10 restaurant business in the GTA (Desi) file for bankruptcy in a couple of years. The market is saturated unless you can get into a niche market.
As anexample,My clay oven was started by a chef who worked in Sweden and who married a Sweden lady. he was a desi. He had to close his restaurant business in a year as he was making heavy losses.
Buffet is $ 9.99 only. For each plate you will spend between $ 7 to $ 20 (high crowd to low crowd). How can you make a profit.
Working in a restaurant is $ 8 an hour cash to may be $ 15 an hour for good kitchen master.
how can you survive.
However, many in this forum will invite you to Canada and Iwill also invite you to Canada.
Peace

Montreal may be a good place for you as I know that a friend of mine told me that it was easy to find a job as Manager for $ 15 an hour. But this was pre recession of 2007.
Gurulaxmi found a niche market of selling costly but quality dosa's to North Indians.
vandemataram had posted a posting of how a sri lankan (illitrate) is operating 5 bistro's (italian menu) and making $ 20,000 sales a week.
These are exceptions and not the norm.
wish you all the best.
Please take as much money out of India and come and invest in a retaurant business in Canada. Even if you loose money it will be within Canada only and will help the canadian govt. to help poor people.
Peace

I do not agree at all. You can say 8 out of 10 are doing FINE. You can't even imagine the kind of profits some of the restaurants are making ( with more than 45% profit margin after booking good salaries for the owners) and it is mind blowing. They get too much cash in the business ( which they do not declare in their returns) and always look for the ways to invest that money. This is first hand info I am giving as some of the owners are my clients.

I am not talking about how much they pay to the employees. The legal wage for a cook is $15-$16 per hour in GTA to get an LMO for Work Permit.
