Dear all
its a nice to join after a long time and to seek advice
from senior cds in this forum.we(me,husband, daughter) landed up in canada in oct 2007 and come back after 10 days to india.
now its almost 2 1/2 year passed, now we r planning for a good move to canada. i am software engineer having 5 years of exp in dot net technology and learing sharepoint and my husband is employed with mnc ,good postion and good salary.
we r planning like first only i,ll go as my husband cann't take the risk(becoz of loans liabilities etc.etc.)
then if i found something near to satisfying withing 4 or 5 months time then my husband will also join me.
but for implementing this plan, i have some doubts in my mind that i want to clear from seniors.
1. how is canada economy now?
2.how is canada safe for a single women who is not that much independant as of now.
3. how is markham city for new commers point of view and for software jobs.
4. if i stay there for 2 years and suppose my husband didn't join me and i get my pr card renewed . can i sponser my husband and daughter if their pr cards expired.
5. for how much time a person can stay in canada on a tourist visa.
please suggest.
thanks & regards

The IT job market has opened up after maybe 1 - 1/2 years of downturn. People who have been out of Work from 6 months to 2 years are starting to get interview calls..
If u are new immigrant it is a bit meaningless because lot of people ask for Canadian or US exp unless u have some special domain knowledge or rare skill..
I expect this to last not more than 6 months after which we enter another bear phase for the job market..
Markham is probably one of the biggest hubs for IT but mind u it will put u far away from Jobs in Missasauga or brampton unless u will get a license fast and start driving (getting a license in canada is a challenge)...
For new comers i would recommend being in Etobicoke. this is not too far from Toronto,Missauga, Brampton and Markhan..
Only Scarborough would be a bit out of the way in terms of time but the subway is well connected for that place..
If you are in a good income bracket both yourself and your husband I would not displace myself in 2010 to move to Toronto and play the blind card. You may have various other reasons to move to Toronto.
It is very hard to preemptively predict and beat the CDN system for new immigrants and I can vouch that the window of oppurtunity is growing smaller. As a prospective new immigrant to Canada in 2010 and with an agenda to start my life from scratch in this economy, with the current home prices (GTA),CDN experience all the odds have been creatively stacked up for the new immigrants.
The ratio of income / housing cost has dramitacally changed in the last 10 years and the new immigrants entering the system would need to have solid jobs for the next 20 - 25 years in order for your PR card to be uselful at the end of the day.At the end of the day I am sure most of us are economic migrants.
My point is Canada is a very beautiful country (95% of the South Asian population have not gone oustide GTA in their lifetime) and we had a big gap in the 80's & 90s due to which we all choose to come here. Please do not use that mirage when you want to move here in 2010 especially when you have a good show going back home.
I am pretty happy herebut when I moved here from the US I was a bit taken aback when I saw the immigrants in the US (real sense immigrants who are competing for slots in the EB2 & EB1 queue) Vs Canadian immigrants from back home (people emigrating to Canada because of bad loans in India, immigrants having problems with courts in India, non professional people home doing funny businesses in India and who applied here under god knows which NOC.)
Bottom line I appreciate that you are trying to strategise but from my personal experience and yours looks like the good route. No matter who much you strategise it is a very steep incline from where you are coming.I just want to make you aware this is not a rosy path as iy was in the late 90's or late 80's
I reside in Markham and it is a great place and lot of tech companies are in the Markham - Richmond Hill area.It is a very safe place for women. You can get to downtown in an hour and half during rush hour using public transit which is still reasonable.
My question to the forum at what point does a couple decide - nope I gave it my best shot and this is my timeline I am going to be spending in Canada. If in 4 years both me and my wife are not doing well let us grab our passports and leave.
The answer to that questions should come from within .. nobody can decide for others... Each persons staying power is different
Some people decide to move back , others stay on try to abuse the system to their advantage .. As they say "where there is a will there is a way".
Everyone has their reasons...
Can we blame Canada or the individual for their decisions.. i say neither..
When i came i gave myself 6 months or 12K $ and said if it does not work out i am going to return back.. i was clear about my principles I was not going to take up any job other than my field and not get into to illegal things to stay on.
As luck would have it things worked out fine for me.. other wise i would have been on the other side posting goodbyes on the forum..

Dear all
thanks for your valuable inputs.
as i m from it background so i was thinking to stay in markham but one of our friend told that markham is not that good for newcomers aspect as there are lesser apartments, more houses and they r expensive for rent purpose.so, initially when u r not having job in hand and will have to look for initial jobs so mississauga, brampton would be a good choice for rentals point of view and for initial jobs also?
kindly advice and if so please send me the links for some good, safe and reasonably priced rentals address.
still i have been left unanswered from my previous post.
" if i stay there for 2 years and suppose my husband didn't join me and i get my pr card renewed . can i sponser my husband and daughter if their pr cards expired."
is this possible?
should i start to post my resume on job sites from now onwards if i m planning to move in may/june '10?
please advice
thanks & regards
