Any reason why you are choosing to leave Australia to Red Deer? Do you have any confirmed job there?
I am also Chennai native who lived in Toronto for 9 years and now working in a south Indian city !

Australia is a beautiful country, no doubt, but I want to try Canada as well.

Have one offer in hand from Red Deer and expecting another one shortly from Calgary. I work in oil & gas, I assume this is the right time to move to Alberta, correct me if I am wrong

Yes.
Oil and Gas is a highly respected field in Alberta.
I would suggest that you move to Calgary rather than Red Deer (if possible) as the temperature will be lower and Calgary is a technologically advanced town.
The only jobs available in Canada is IT in Ontario, Hospitality in Quebec and Oil & Gas in Alberta.
So hit the rod when it is hot / make hay when the sun shines.
