Hi, I am moving to Red Deer (Alberta province) from Mississauga. I got the job in Red Deer.
I would like to know that Is there any Indian community out there? Do they have any association or club there? Are there any web sites I can get this info from?Is there any Indian grocery store there? What should I take with me from here? Do I need to hand over my Health Card here because In Alberta I have apply for new health
card. I am having Ontario G1 Driving license? Will It be valid in Alberta?
Any relocation tips?
Jaymin
It is good that you got a job in Red Deer, Alberta
I don't think there is sizable Indian Community there. The best way to check this is to use 411plus or we have "Find Desi In Canada" on the home page and give common Indian last names like Singh, Patel etc. and see how many of them are there. I checked quickly and found 0 Patels and 6 Singhs. It means there are very few desis.
So obviously it should not have any grocery store. You might have to drive to Alberta - about 2 hours drive or Edmonton almost same time.
I am not sure about Heath Card and Driving License. You should get this information from respective ministries.
Generally this driving license is valid for some time to drive anywhere in North America.
May be Jack can help as he moved from Toronto To Montreal.
Once you go there, please let us know about that place in this forum. If there are job opportunities please post them here and you can make bigger desi group there!
Thanks.

Hi,
You will need a new heath card and drivers license(though you do not have to retake any tests). Your car may have to be certified as in good condition if you are bringing it over to the new province( as was the case for me). Both your health and license are valid for 3 months in the new province too. However, the earlier you change it the better. You may want to check with the authorities/govt websites there in Alberta to get more details since each provincemay have its own requirements. However, I am qute sure it mostly involves paperwork only.
Hope this helps

Hi Jayman. I'm not of Indian descent, but live in Red Deer and have been trying to meet some people who share an interest in Hindi cinema and music. If we share the same interest, maybe we could correspond via email or through my blog. It is http://www.shellsbollyworld.blogspot.com" rel="nofollow">LINK
It would be lovely to hear from you.
Hi,
I got a good job in Red Deer and am moving shortly.
Is there an Indian community in red deer - grocery stores - other stuff typically desi.
I saw the same question posted by someone about four years ago. I don't know if there is a sizeable change for better after that. If you are still in Red Deer would like to hear from you or anyone familiar.
