Hello,
We are soon to be moving to Red Deer Alberta and wanted to know of good, safe neighborhoods to look to buy in. Possibly close to schools, parks and supermarkets?
What areas of town are "safe" and what areas of town should we avoid?
Also what are some good schools and daycares?
Thanks for any input!
Hi,
I lived in Red Deer for work, it is nice small city (3rd largest city in Alberta ~100 K population) located in the middle of Edmonton and Calgary (~150 KM from each). It is winter city so winter is harsh and long.
The North and South side of the city is so called blue and white collar areas resp. based on the occupations of majority, thus South side has so called 'better' schools and community oriented neighbourhoods (therefore house prices/ rents are higher on the south).
Red Deer it is a smaller city so are the job oppertunities, the costs of living are higher and so is the housing (without big cities amenities!), the overall town is peacful with far lesser crimes as compare to Calgary or Edmonton. The availability of ethinic food is minimal, the best bet could be to drive either to Edmonton/ Calgary.
I suggest initially renting and get to know the city and later decide if you like to buy a house there but upto you.
If you dont mind sharing why are you moving to Red Deer? Sorry cant help with Day care or School (I lived as a single).
Thank you for the input. We are moving for work. The cost of housing seems decent to us compaired to where we live now and where we were looking. We just were unsure of what the 'good' parts of town where, as every town seems to have the more 'rough' parts.
I hope we can find decent daycare though if anyone else out there knows!
Thanks again.
