Hi,
I am moving to Red Deer shortly. Want to know if a desi community exists there?
Any Indian restaurants, indian groceries, spices shop etc etc.
I saw the same question posted by someone about 5 years ago - dont know if things have changed for better after that.
If you are still out there - or someone familiar with Red Deer / Calgary / Edmonton please "shine the light"

Red Deer is Heaven compared to Fort McMurray and Grand Prairie. If I tell you the expansions there with shopping malls etc., opening up in Grand Prairie now, you will find that RED DEER is a busy town, about 90,000 strong in population. It is at the cross roads. But cold and colder than a Deep Freeze -41 C / Four months. So get the 'Parkas' out in a month.
When people dropped down and asked when is the summer here?, the answer was "YESTERDAY".
Things were booming till about the time US Financial collapse and the shutting down of the Alberta Oil sands. The price of Crude hit 35 bucks Us and everything went under. Came to a stand still. It is slowly building up now and after the GULF-BP spill, AB Oil sands (No more TAR SANDS!!) looks VERY VERY Clean. At $90/Bbl you will see things in full swing.
Fort McMurray is the next town that will shine and currently is just raising its head and will boom in a few years. May be five years from now. If you are there you will get to know everything that is going on there before we do, because the roads start to get busy and the traffic starts to flow. Flying is for the birds and these bush pilots are the last resort. You might need them, that is why they are there. Most of the Northern Explorers use them. I don't know if you are one of them. Just as recently as a month ago they were drilling there in full swing. They just shut down the drilling there and moved south with their rigs and all. They will wait for the permafrost to set in in Jan /Feb to start operations once more.
After that you will say, I wish I had a days rest to catch up......
Boy o boy, do they have money to burn!!
"You haven't seen nothing yet."
Have a good one.
Freddie
