Hi,
These are questions from a friend of mine. He is a senior executive in a Middle east based IT company and trying to get his wife pursue Masters Degree here.
He has following questions, if any answers right off the bat.. please shoot it.
Jaya had done her Bachelor's in Civil Engineering degree (B.E Civil) from Bharathiyar University as part of 1993-97 batch. Her overall % is 66%, last two year's aggregate is 66%.
The threads provide most of the information are
http://canadiandesi.com/read.php?TID=6255
http://canadiandesi.com/read.php?TID=12775
1) Is Jaya eligible for applying MEng for Masters degree with the above percentage?
2) Is it mandatory to appear for IELTS exam or a English Language Proficiency certificate issued by the University is good enough?
Based on the thread, I think TOEFL and in some cases GRE is necessary.
3) Are there any universities nearer to Missisaugha where she can commute?
University of Toronto, York, Ryerson, if you drive then UW, Wilfred Laurier and then McMaster
4) Can she bring her family when she enroll for a Masters degree in Canada ?
If kids miss mother, could the kids join the mother, if yes would they need to go to Private school.
5) Is the husband allowed to work while I study? and can kids go to school?
6) When is the next batch start?
I guess this will depend on the school.
7) After completing the MEng, am I allowed to stay in Canada to seek job? If yes, for how long?
Like OPT in USA. I guess one would get 2 years work permit.
8) Do I need to approach my university in Coimbatore to send any paper work such as attested marklist, degree certificate etc.. directly to each of the applying universities?
How did you handle for your admissions.
Collect the transcripts first from your Indian university (often in sealed envelope) and later when some university request direct mailing, tbhey could do that too).
9) What is the procedure to apply for Masters? What are the pre-requisites, FAQ's?
Thanks for your response.

The below is the link to obtain transcripts:
Your question no. 8 - http://www.b-u.ac.in/academics/transcription.html
Mind you, several colleges that were affiliated with BU are no longer so. If your friend attended an affiliated college, then the above link may not hold water.

Thanks. I have some first hand experience in dealing with the transcripts for my wife`s admission into her University. I did approach the university, collected sealed envelop and delivered to the university and it worked. ( I will inform them to collect the transcripts first and later when some university request direct mailing, let them do that too).

The scores you have provided are just a PASSING GRADE. Some universities will evaluate International students differently.
TOEFL or IELTS is a must. Scores needed are TOEFL 567 // IELTS 6.5 +
You have to follow the requirements of each and every University.
1) There is a very bleak chance her getting a seat. Choose ONE or TWO Universities and apply to them. The Next opening might be in 2015. The final date might over for this fall's courses.
2) YES
3) For Masters it might just be in only one location only, which will be the Main Campus.
4) First TOEFL, then ACCEPTANCE, then apply for Student Visa and a TRV for the whole family and a WP for her Husband. Do not go about it haphazardly. Everyone gets in and husband with a WP. Otherwise NO.
5) YES and the Schooling is free. Private at your own expense.
6) JAN 2015 for ME. and Schools after the Labour day.
7) Normally depends upon teh length of the courses. Currently you get THREE YEARS for a Two year Degree. But jobs are not guaranteed!!
8) Each University has their own processing follow it up.
9) MAC : http://www.eng.mcmaster.ca/civil/academicrequirementsgs.htm
RYR. : http://www.ryerson.ca/graduate/programs/civil_engineering/degreerequirements.html#center_generichtml
10) FUNDING.. ABOUT 60K / TWO YEARS
11) Health requirements for all...
12) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/notices/2014-02-12.asp
Good Luck.
FH.
