I am relocating to Surrey for a year duration starting Mid Apr. I will be travelling with my wife and a 2.5 yr old from India.
1. I lived in CA, USA so far and have valid DL. Can I drive in Surrey, BC with my US DL? Any special advise?
2. Is it advised to carry woolmark thermal clothing from India?
I will be mainly working from Home so commute to work is not a criteria for looking for stay.
3. Any recommendations for Apartments in Surrey Area where large number of Desi population live?
4. Any recommendations for Apartments in Surrey Area where people socialize well.
5. Recommendation on Apartments near Desi grocery stores and restaurants.
I searched for some apartments in the area and found Pacific Park Apartments, Salus, D'croize having better location from desi stores perspective.
Any pointers suggestions will be appreciated.
1. Check ICBC website. Go to nearest ICBC office with your US license and you typically will get BC license right away.
2. Not required unless you just love it.
3. Welcome to the club (working from home).
4. You will find desi's everywhere in Surrey (little less on South Surrey side but will find everywhere). No idea about apartment but avoid Whalley area.
5. You will get desi grocery/restaurant everywhere in Surrey.
My friends from CA always say that they get Jalandhar feeling in Surrey.
Thanks Ash20
Based on your response looks like pacific park apartment makes more sense.
Also what is the best approach to look for a car for one year use.
If you want a car only for a year .. maybe you should just use taxis/public transport. car insurance is very high. Likely cheaper using cabs (unless you want a long commute daily).
I plan to rent my basement soon
With a 2 yr old in a rainy+cold weather I thought having a personal transport be better.
What are typical insurance rates for a comprehensive coverage? (3rd party, self, medical, rental car, roadside assistance). --- I have 5 yrs of driving exp in US.
Wall-E, I will send you a personal message regarding basement you plan to put on rent.
CDN $1400+ (I am new to BC .. but I think that would be the best rate you can get .. if you are lucky)
hi wall-e can u msg me your number so i can call u as i need some advise. thanks.
