Please suggest me a good family doctor in mississauga. Is it mandatory to have one near your living place or you can choose it from anywhere within the city. Can I request to have a female family doctor for my wife. Thanks
What blow ?
Family doctors were hard to find in the 2000's, but in 2011 they were comparitively easier to find. Not sure about now.
What you can do is scout near your home for doctors and ask the receptionist, if they will take new patients. If so fine. Otherwise, you can ask your friends to recommend you. Family doctors generally take with references (patients friend etc..). You can choose a lady doctor to be your family doctor.
Another walk around thing is to choose a walk in clinic. The walk in clinic opp. mississauga trillium hospital is good. They have (family) doctors and specialists. So if you have a specific problem, the doctor will see you and then bill ohip and he will give a note to see the specialist. The specialist will see you and then bill ohip. So you will be treated just fine. Only thing, govt. will be billed 2 times but then you donot pay from your pocket. Govt. pay it from your taxes.
The advantage of having a good family doctor is that you will get good specialists appointment on a better waiting time. From Walk in clinic, the independant good specialists (eg. for heart) will rarely give you an appointment or they will give one after 2 months. That is the only disadvantage but if you are Ok with any tom, then walk in is good for you.
Also in walk in your can visit doctor any number of times, till you get an antibiotic. For example, in Mississauga, when they prescribe nothing for running nose, I go to 2 or 3 more walk in's till I locate an Indian doctor in the walk in. Indian doctor will always prescrive antibiotics.
Hope you have got a good idea now.

OHIP card is like a credit card in a doctor's hand. Its like a Visa or Mastercard for them. They will bill the gov. big time.

NO .. no limit......YES change as many as you like

NO
You can change family doctor as long as you wish and free of charge but ....
If the new family doctor is a professional, he may ask you to transfer your file from the previous doctor (hope E records in ontario has still not come) and the old doctor may charge $ 3 or more per page that you have to pay. Otherwise no problem.
Now looks like a lot more doctors have come and you are getting to get family doctors (but young graduates). Anyways better than no doctors.

Thanks Gurram.
Dear TK, yes this was the money I was referring to, meaning if you have quite a massive file, may cost you a lot
Happywoman, thanks but just yesterday my family registered themselves with the nearby walkin clinic doctor.
