This article in New York times by their Delhi correspondent is making news for all bad reasons.
Reading this article and the accompanying 400+ comments makes me angry and also sad that the level of pollution has deteriorated to such unbelievable levels. This article will make anyone reverse their Return-2-India plans.

That's absolutely true. The situation was not this dire about 10 years ago when I left the place. The city's pollution then came to a halt with CNG infused public transportation. However, with liberalization, booming middle class, migration, ever growing NCR, and more cars than the roads could handle, the situation became much grave and endemic. All of these factors have collectively contributed to make Delhi a hazard prone and the 'garh' for pollution. Not a pleasant site to see.

Now, every time I visit Delhi, the place where I was born and grew up at, I feel sickening to see the spate that it is in.

It certainly requires a political and bureaucratic will. Without which, it will go south only.

People that belong to other Metros or the second run cities shouldn't hold their horses and feel proud. They are racing to join Delhi in their bandwagon to the utmost pollution and chaos as well. Kolkata, Mumbai, Kanpur, Agra, Ludhiana, Chennai, anyone?

I don't know how long would this keep going. Can Modi and Kejriwal do something about it? Both are efficient and appear to be in this together. There should be an ado about this 'everything'.

Not only polluted air, the food doesn't seem to offer much anymore. Here's another study/report on Delhi's street food:

http://zeenews.india.com/news/health/healthy-eating/delhi-street-food-has-high-level-of-faecal-matter-study_1605977.html

Meri Dilli, meri shaan - but for how long?

Just like how Canadian Govt. cheats immigrants to immigrate to Canada (Low jobless rate, 1 million jobs by 2020 and the like), this is an attempt to make NRI's and Citizens of other countries (Who have held Indian citizenship before), never to return to India.

People who want the benefits of India (like meeting parents, buying land, giving good secondary school education etc..), will always come and use India. This will never change.

Sadly, most tier-2 cities share similar problems, albeit to a lesser degree. But not mild enough to fall within habitability thresholds.

In India, there are no visionaries in the echelons of power. So, expect things to come to an emergency before any action is taken.

hmm... no country is perfect in every way. Houston has flood issue. Canada ( esp other than Vancouver) has snow issue. I love snow (soft) but am scared of falling on black ice and breaking my back bone. :( I don't know which scares me more, falling on ice or secluded at home for 4-6 months. Now I know as to why western people are more on net/laptop??. i.e to keep themselves sane and out of depression. ;)

India has a long way to go with regrds to environmental awareness and cleanliness. :)

Who cares about the NRIs? I have a family back in Delhi that inhales smoke and dirt in the air every single minute of the day and it shows on their health.

As much as there are problems with Canadian immigration, there does have problems with pollution in India or Delhi to be specific, emotional reasons notwithstanding.

People that want the benefit of India do deserve a better environment to live for themselves, their off-springs, and the generations to come. Not everyone could move to a village for a cleaner air.

NYT correspondent quote: "Delhi has high levels of pollution".
Fact: "Central Pollution Control Board located in Delhi has issued a statement indicating extremely high levels of pollution in the Delhi air".

TK quote: "Canadian Govt cheats immigrants to immigrate to Canada".
Fact: No one has proved in a court of law that Canadian govt is running a immigration racket. This is a theory usually popular with people who have not done well in Canada.
