guys,
i too am planning to move to toronto - i'm just curious, can you guys share some of your experience(s) while you were on your first month to first year of living in Canada. More of like anecdotes or stories you may want to share to would-be immigrants like me. It could anywere be from your first "job hunting escapades" to your "encounter with the other minorities" or even "pursuing a love interest" or even hobbies... how did you find your first year?
Thanks in advance - this would be a great help for all aspiring immigrants!
First and formost, when you arrive, please do not start converting the expenses from Canadian dollars to Rupees. U will get a shock. U will not get anything under a dollar which is 33 ruppees. When you come here, spend your money wisely. Do not take the taxi (cabs). They are really expensive. Always use the bus. Buy a bus pass for a week if you are going to travel frequently as it will be a lot cheaper. The buses here are punctual and go anywhere u wish to go. U can take the GO transit to commute in the GTA. If ur commuting in Toronto itself, the subway will do a great job. Try to move into an appartment/condominium within your first month. If you are planning to rent a car, then bring ur international license with u. When u rent a car, always buy insurance from the rental company. It is about 10 dollars a day. DO NOT DRIVE WITHOUT INSURANCE. If you hit the car or hit somoene or someone hits ur car, u will have to pay from ur pocket if u do not have insurance. ALWAYS BUY INSURANCE from the rental company.
This should help for now. Will keep u posted on other stuff some other time.
CrossBack,
This site is FULL of such experiences. Seek and ye shall find (use the "Search in Charcha" feature.
