Hi,
from the various posts on this site, i get a strong impression that we should explore the idea of starting out in a smaller city, like say Calgary. I did get a positive response when i first posted the thought.
I'd like to know that if we land Tn toronto when we come there in April 2005, and after a couple of months decide to relocate to, say alberta, and assuming we have received our SIN card, PR card and health card , does that in any way affect provision of these services?
I mean is a SIN card or Health card issued regionwise, or the one you receive from the Toronto office is relevant wherever you go in Canada?
Also, is it better to decide in advance where we want to start out and land there, or take a couple of months in Toronto to decide on the final destination? Should we keep our options open?
would appreciate some advice.

Why not just land in Calgary directly? Why do you want to land in Toronto first?
It can get very expensive if you decide to land in Toronto first and decide after couple of months to move West - unnecessary living and moving expenses for first few months in Toronto. Which you could be using to acclimate yourself with Calgary where you plan to settle. Plus you can start building friends circle, explore job/business opportunities from day one in Calgary itself.
Remember, both cities are not next door. Similar to a common misconception in India that if someone is visiting family in NY, they can go to Disneyland and CA easily.
First few months getting to know Toronto is not going to be of \"great help\" to you in knowing Calgary.

thanks for the prompt reply. I actually wanted to know whether we should keep our options open. In Toronto, we have a lot of close friends and we probably would face less problems initially. If things work out on job front, we could remain there. However, if things don't work out, we can shift to another city, say Calgary, if we find things better there.
I would also appreciate ur advice on whether relocating affects provision of services through Health card, SIN etc. Are these cards issued regionwise?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I actually wanted to know whether we should keep our options open. We have a lot of close friends in Toronto so if we go there first it would be easy initially. If things work out on the job front, we could remain there. However, if things don't work out, and there is a better opportunity elsewhere we could relocate.
