Hello all:

I landed in Toronto in Jan 2007. I'm moving there permanently in May 2007. I got my PR card but I did not have time to apply for health card. How long does it normally take to get health card in Toronto if I apply in May? Do I have to take a personal insurnace during the 'gap' period?

Any individual insurance companies you advice?

Thanks
Senthil

There is a 3 month waiting period for health services to start after your arrival date. In your case the arrival date will be in May 2007. You can apply anytime after you arrive in May. In the eventuality that you do not receive your health card at the end of 3 months, you can still avail of health services (check with the health office at the time of applying about that).

As regards personal insurance during the waiting period, it's your choice

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

I have follow up question...

In case, I fell sick during the 3 month period and do not have insurance, I will have to pay the whole ammount for the services availed out of my pocket. right?

Any insurance agency you recommend?

Yes, you'd have to bear all expenses. Alternatively...don't fall sick :D

Any insurance agency - I don't know of any, I'm sure other members would be able to help.

Try calling clarica. They covered a guy I knew, for the first 3 months. (This was in Ottawa).
