Hi Guys

Last the much awaited Day had come . The request for stamping over Visa brought with a lot of happiness and Confusion . i hope you guys can helpl solve some of the question i would have in the days ahead .

Here is the frist of many .
I live in Muscat , oman . My daughter is in grade 3 , she will be finishing her grade 3 in march of 2007 . I want to go to India this dec to spend time with my father (I lost my mother this march) .We plan to immgrate in June 2007. If i leave for india in Dec this year , my daugther will be quiting school mid year and she will join school in canada in Sep of 2007 . that means she will be out of school for 9 mths . i do hope to find some classes in india to keep her occupied . And as she is 8yrs now and will be 9yrs when we come to Canada she may have to repeat her Grade 3 in Canada(accord to the info i gather form friends , don't know if it is true) . so here is the big qestion :-

1.Do i let my daughter finish her Grade 3 here ( CBSE level) and go to india in march?
1. Or in dec as i planned ? which would (a) save me money in house rent ,school and living exp here in muscat .(hushband would move to company Accomd).
(b) give 6mths with my dad , allow me to upgrade my skills(Stay at home mom) , sort out stuff in india.

so guys what should i do . for in the answer to this question lies my next move .
I do not in anyway want to distrupt my daughter's education .
i hope you parents out there can show me the way .
All confused yet ready to go
jenny

A simple solution - though difficult to achieve, but only YOU can do it and no one can help.

You have four major issues

1. going to India and living with your dad
2. daughter's education
3. living away from your husband (and the daughter living away from father)
and
4. Saving money on rentals etc.

Put these four issues in order of priority - and you might most probably get the answer yourself.

Point to ponder:
In case the 4th issue has no1 priority - consider how it would be if you stayed away from him for next 5 years! You could save a LOT! and your daughter could get educated in India till her high school!!!

Hi Jennifer!

Congratulations on your visa(s) albeit with the heap of the ponderings which come with it.

You do have quite a dilema there, understandably. :)

However, since you ask for an opinion; your original plan seems perfect (generally the plans which you made before you got the visas are often the best- its the ones you make AFTER you get the visa that tend to confuse us humans :) )

Moving in Dec isnt a bad idea at all; let your husband move to a company flat and you can proceed to India where you get to spend time with your father (parents are not immortal, so hey, spend time with him while you can- also once when you land in Canda, you might not want to be out of the country too long to fulfil the three years stay for citizenship).

As regards the CBSE education for your daughter for another 9 months, well, shes going to leave CBSE forever anyways when you get her here. If you are willing to pay a little bit, you will find tons of activities for her (have her attend tuition classes for her grade if you like- that will keep on with the learning) and you will also watch over her, i am sure.

Depending when you land in June, your daughter can still go to school for a few days before school vacation starts. Kids are pretty robust that way, and someone whos had CBSE education for as long, will do very well too.

I dont know where you wil lbe landing, however heres a link to the schools in Toronto http://www.tdsb.on.ca/_site/ViewItem.asp?siteid=90&menuid=313&pageid=241

Your stay in India will allow you sometime to catch your breath, do courses for yourself and attend to all things which you might have to attend in India (property, getting transcripts from universities, bank accounts, medical insurance, PAN cards for yourself, etc...)

If you would like to work when you get to Canada, then try to get your education evaluated by WES http://www.wes.org" rel="nofollow">LINK

You can do that while you are in India too.

Most of all enjoy while you have some time in India for yourself. Its going to be quite hectic and eventful when you land here, looking for a place to stay, learning everything (almost everything) again, looking for a job, minding your daughter in a new environment.....a whole bunch of challenges, but its exciting all the same :) and so yes, do prepare for it.

So, all in all, your first plan of moving in Dec sound good........has my vote :)

Hopefully, you get BETTER and HELPFUL RESPONSES hereon.

Good luck......

Hi

Grade 3 completion or not completed wont make any difference in your
child getting admission. Admission is base on the kids age, I have 2 kids
and both were admitted in the same grade (I mean they did not loos any year)

They did not even look at our Transfer Certificate (TC) from ISG Muscat.

So I think leaving for India in Dec is a good idea.

Best of luck

Tom

Hi

Omantom is right, admission is given based on the age, so it doesnot matter when you come, it's just that the child need to adopt, and they do it..

I have two daughters the younger one who was in grade 2 in Dubai had to repeat here.

Goodluck. On a side note I believe you have planned properly for baby care, job, skills improvement etc, as babysitting and other initial cost is very expensive. If you are not it will take no time for your omani rials to disapper.
It's a good idea though for husband to stay there for a while
