Thanks in advance
I will be going in feburary 08' to visit for few days, thats why I was asking about sight seeing.
I was thinking to move permanently in the month of april instead of august[as suggested by few CDs] if it is of any benefit/good for kids education.[which you have answered]
My daughter will give her CBSE board exams in the month of march and will finish her 10th by end of march.
I have downloaded 'first day --info for new comers'.
Thanks.

hi,
we are also from UAE-Sharjah.Planning to come to Canada in July-Aug 08.
If any of you are in UAE,do send me your contact details and we can be in touch...
Regards,
You have mentioned that you might be landing in Canada in Feb '08 for a few days only before moving permanently in April. However, you have not metioned your destination in Canada.
I would highly recommend that during this trip, you should visit a settlement agency in the neighbourhood where the settlement workers are well informed and equipped with serving newcomers with their needs. You can get a list of settlement agencies by visiting www.settlement.org
The services are free as they are funded by CIC. They can guide you with application for SIN, education for your children, opening of bank account etc.
Completion of these formalities during this trip shall be beneficial to you when you return permanently in April
Incase you are planning to visit Mississauga/Brampton/Caledon region, you can visit us at Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre (905.629.1873)
Best wishes and welcome to Canada
Praveen
Thanks Praveen,
we will be in Mississauga--
_So you mean to say I should apply for SIN and health insurance also?Yes I will be moving most probably in april permanently [if god willings]--
_Which Store or supermarket would be better for shopping?
_Though we bought winterclothes but still if we find they are not enough [upon reaching there[--which will be a good place in Mississauga to get winter clothes at good price?
_Can I take my laptop with me which I will be bringing back?
_Do I need to keep a voltage adapter with me?
Sorry to ask so many Qs----thanks in advance.

As the SIN Card is primarily for obtaining a job and the Health Card becomes effective only after 90 days of landing, it may not be a good idea to apply for SIN Card during this short trip. You would need an address to receive the SIN Card. Regarding the OHIP Card, the rule says that you cannot be absent from Ontario for more than 30 days in the first 180 days. Therefore, i would suggest postponing these for April when you permanently move.
Regarding convenience shopping for winter clothes, in Mississauga, Square One is a popular destination and has stores like Walmart, Sears, Zellers and many more. Winter wear is on sale at most of these places and you can get good deals.
You can get your laptop and take it back . There should not be any problem. In Canada, you have 110 V supply. Most of the laptops today work both on 220V and 110 Volt. So just make sure that it works on 110 V
Since you mentioned that you will be in Mississauga, do find time to visit me or call me at 905-629-1873 Extn 244
Best wishes
Praveen
