It is upto you. If you don't have enough money to show, you should get it converted. Otherwise it will be considered personally jwellery and will not be part of necessary fund.

Some people without enough fund do this - they borrow neccessary money for a month and than send back the money to India. You will have to pay only interest and that would be cheaper. Though this is not good as you should have some money with you to survive in this country for six months.
