People will always point fingers. Do what you think is in your best interest. When people in 1850s were taken to Guyana as indentured laborers, there they had to convert to Christianity to get Govt jobs. Many of them even after converting in private still practiced their old relegion.

In fact Guyana is a very good example of how Hindus got rid of caste system, under pressure from evangelists trying to convert them to Christianity.
Once you have achieved what you want by conversion, you can come back to to your relegion as did by many Keralite Christians who converted back to Hinduism.
