hi Ravi
Just putting down costs of the items in India so that you can compare costs while thinking of buying these there
1. Cell phone with camera costs 10000 - 14000 INR, NOKIA
2. Cordless phone costs 1900 INR - 2500 INR, SONY
3. Camcorder costs 22000 - 25000 INR, SONY
SONY (camcorder) products usually come with a world wide guarantee.
All things upto 12000 INR (total value of items) do not attract any duty.
As you said, Ravi, i feel that all these economical aspects put aside, theres nothing which compares to the joy which parents get when they get to tell the neighbour - "Kya ji cordless - yeh hamery puttar ne Canada se bheja he ji, bahoot badiya set he ". Or the mother can say when she gets a call on her cell " Ek minute Mrs Khurana phone aya he....!"
So i say prices be damned - gifts which bring a smile to your parents and remind them of you can never be judged simply by their prices.
I am sure they will be dusted everyday of their lives and cherished dearly.

Wonder how would the parents expression change, when the neighbour pulls out the exact same(or even better) phone from his pocket and says, "Kya ji cordless - yeh hamarey puttar ne aapka wala phone yehan se aadhey daam mein khareeda hai, aur is wajeh se jee hamarey paas aisey 2 phone ho gayein hein ji!"
end quote
