Rather than talk about the difference, I think you will understand better if I say that the similarity between a digital still camera(but with option of recording motion picture) and a standard digital camcorder is only in the technology used for imaging. Both use digital imaging techniques that improves the quality of pictures. On the camcorder, the image is recorded in a digital format. Since the digital camcorder produces digital images, it can also be used to shoot still images where the pictures are stored on a memory stick just as in the case of a standard digital still camera.
In the case of the digital still camera, the pictures are stored on a memory stick and not recorded to tape. The capacity of the memory stick is limited. You may uses this capacity to record either still images or video. It's your choice. However, if you choose the latter, your memory stick will get full pretty quickly I am not sure, maybe a few minutes at most.
