Electronics shopping in Toronto

My parents are here visiting from India and would like to take some electronics back with them. The items they are looking for are

1. cell phone with camera

2. Cam Corder

3. Cordless phone

Any suggestions where in Toronto/Brampton/Mississauga these can be found with a reasonalble price.

Please keep in mind that these are only going to be used in India. Thus they are not looking for voltage adapters or duel voltage systems

Also, is it cheaper/better to buy them here or in India. My parents are not experienced/knowledgeable enough to know what the price of these things are in India.

What about a real store in the Toronto Area that specializes in electronics for India...?

If you take the customs duty that these items would invite, I do not think it would be cheaper than buying the same stuff in India. Also, since the items are eventually going to be in India, it will be difficult to claim the guarantee/warranty in case repairs are needed. I would always prefer to buy stuff from a store/shop where I can go back and smack the owner on the head with the product if I am not satisfied with, unless there are really good savings in buying it abroad. Just my view though.
Look up the local desi tabloids and you will find several stores that cater specifically to Indian requirements of voltage. On that comes to mind is a store on Gerrad Street called "House of 220".

I totally agree with you wiserman. However, parents are from the old school think that they have to get a foriegn made gift and bring it India. Even though is likely to be more expensive here in Canada. Sometime there is no logic in gifts and gift buying. Well that's an whole new topic.
