How had been your experience in living in Toronto area so far? I recently visited Vacouver (after getting my landing documents) and it was the worst experience of my life - rude and arrogant people, worst traffic situation, and complete disorganization.

Similar to above - some questions:
- How accepting are the locals in Toronto? I know Toronto is a major financial district.
- How are the local people in Toronto - are they welcoming or shy or don't talk to strangers kind?
- Which are the nice areas to live in Toronto or greater Toronto - areas which are considered to be decent and are little to moderately expensive?
- Do Torontorians(excuse me if this wrong for the locals there) find Asians friendly and what do they think of them?
- How is the weather there - in summer, spring, winter, fall?

Please help me understand Canada - as I'd very much like to know on whether I've made the right decision to immigrate there. Please do reply.

Thank you and any help is greatly appreciated.

:(

I guess either no one has the courage to say anything or they don't know what to say?

But I got my answer. Thank you.

Everybody's answers to this are going to be different, based on their experiences. For instance, your experience in Vancouver which you claim was the "worst" of your life may shock others who think Vancouverites are much nicer than Torontonians. I've never been to Vancouver however that's the feedback I've received from many, that the people there are much more polite and nicer than us here in Toronto.

Anyways, my experience is that most Torontonians are pretty friendly and helping. However, like any big metropolis, people are short on time so may not have time for small-talk if you try to initiate it. And downtown being the financial core may have its share of snobs, no big surprise.

If I use my experiences in the U.S. as a basis for comparision though, I would say the people are a lot friendlier. Much easier to mix with than Americans, whatever the reason may be. Even the desis here are nicer.

I'm sure someone else will feel otherwise. I think your other questions require some digging on the forum but have been answered multiple times before so try a search if nobody answers. Good luck.

I agree with the post above, that everyone's experience is different, but if your interested in my opinion I think that Toronto is a great city. I was born and raised her, and most people I've encountered generally have a positive attitude towards South Asians. I think people's image of a city also depends on how long they've lived or visited there. I think those who have been in a city for a longer period of time, will have a better idea of how the people of a city are.

I would have to say though, that Canada is a much friendlier country than America is, and many of my friends who have lived in America would agree too. Especially if you have children, Canada would be a better choice than America.

Toronto is wonderful city, and you should definitely consider moving here.

In my exp. majority of people who compare US to Canada tend to make comparison between US Northeast to Canada. They ignore the vast cultural differences which exist between different regions with in US.

Based on having lived for few years in Toronto, US Midwest and US South and staying in Vancouver and US Northeast for few months. IMO,

Rudeness
------------
US Northeast - Highest
Toronto
US South and Vancouver (tie)
US Midwest - Lowest

Contrary to what I read everywhere, I feel that it is factor of diversity of population. More homogeneous the population, more likely they will be nicer to everyone. Rudeness starts where different cultures/races get a critical mass and start to create their own ghettos - little italy, little china and little india, etc. That is when the competition instead of being between individuals becomes between races and generates rude/igonrant attitude toward other communities.

I found that people living in areas with low population tend to be lot nicer.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
