Hi,
I came here in August'04 on work-permit and is going to file the return. But I have a couple of questions:
1)Should I go through the lawyer or I can fill this online(this is the first time I am filling the return in Canada)
2)What's my status?..should I file under "Resident" or "immigrant" or "emigrant" or something else ? As the tax bracket is different for different residency status.
Thanks !

Partial resident and not a full year resident

We will find a way or we will make one

what's the meaning of "partial resident"..There is no option to choose that in the tax forms.Valid status is one of the following:
1)Resident
2)Deemed resident
3)non-resident
4)immigrant
5)emigrant
which one applies to my case?

resident but you get pro-rated Standard deduction for 4 months and similarly for exemption ..
like if the std deduction is 12000 for somebody who has lived for 12 months in canada and is taxable on all income worldwide you would just get 4000 for 4 months of residency and are not taxable on the first 8 months of income that you had before coming to canada

First time filers are always have to do it in paper.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
Can I claim the rental benefits for the rent I am paying for my accomodation?
