I have been going thru the several posts and threads on forex for the last several days and notice you're the man on this (with 32 posts on this thread)

Could you possibly tell me how the Canadian dollar was vis a vis the USD, the Euro, the RMB(China currency) and the Indian Rupee on Jan 1/2 2006 and how it was Dec 31, 2006? I do realise this is a continuous market- so a rough approx within a few (5-10) bips is cool.

Also what was its high during the year- I do remember a lot of buzz on the CAD reaching parity with the USD mid last year.

Also any site to visit to chk these numbers out would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Chandresh,

Many thanx your quotes.

Actually I conduct several informational sessions on investment and may a time am asked how the lower Canadian dollar affected the investments.

Basically it seems there was a big swing only in the Euro and not much in other currencies. So when Excel India funds returned 30 plus % returns only about 3 % can be attributed to currency change and when it returned 80 plus % on its China fund only about 4% attributed to currency depreciation.

Only in Europe funds can one atribute 10% gain due currency depreciation.

Cool.

As a investpro, I am sure it was NOT a quote that I had given!

In the stock market world the value of a stock is known as a 'quote' please see:

http://www.globeinvestor.com/

On the left hand corner under tracking tools it says 'Stock Quotes'.

This is only one example. There are thousands more.

What is it known as in the forex world? I have often heard on ROBTV also that the CAD is currently "quoted" at 'X' US dollars. Is there another word or can one also use quote? It would seen from your post that quote is not the normal word used or are you referring to the quote not being yours and that the quote is from a website or wherever. Then my sentence is just the colloquial form of expression claimimg its 'your' quotes even though it may be from a website or wherever.

Perhaps it's just referred to as 'pair value' as you have stated.

Or are you referring to something else altogether?

Also I used the word bips though I understand its pips. However I am told there are bips (bps) in forex as well.

All I wanted to say was that it was not MY quote - though it was a quote alright.
