Hi All,
I am relocating to Mississauga from Florida, USA in the end of the Month with a PR status. I have currently two cars with me..A 2005 Honda odyssey and 1995 Toyota Corrolla in US. I brought the odyssey in a bank loan of 20K which I am paying for the past 1 year.
Do I need to clear this loan before moving Odyssey to Canada..?? or I can continue my US Load from Canada. Do I need to pay anything extra to move the cars to Canada..??
I am a bit confused with this new car that I have..Any advices.
Cheers,
Rkmsnd
-- You will need to pay for the modifications required for the cars to meet the cdn safety standards. Since your Corolla is old, you might want to consider to sell it off rather than spending money on it for the required modifications.
--For the Odyssey, you might need a no objection letter from your financial institution (for moving the car across the border)

Last year, I moved my car from US to Canada as a returning resident. These are the expenses I had to incur.
- Duty(Mine was one year old car, I had to pay duty for bringing it to Canada)
- GST
- Excise Tax
(These add up to C$1800.00 for me)
- Day light running modifications (C$250.00)
- Federal inspection (C$250.00)
- Provincial inspection (C$140.00)
- Registration(<50.00)
- Shipping costs
- As mentioned by cdn_dude, financial clearance is required.
I bought my mini van from Nissan. But Nissan USA did not consider to transfer my loan payments to Nissan Canada. I had to pay in full to get the clearance from Nissan. Even Nissan didn't consider providing the Warranty on the vehicle in Canada also though I have 2 more years warranty remaining on it.
I still did it since I got a very good deal on my car. Hope this helps.
