I would say that canadians are used to multi culture. so dont get bothered by the smell of food. If chinese food smells, so does Pop Corn and so does Indian Food.

Few tips which I have experienced:
While Cooking close the doors of other rooms especially your clothes closet, else the clothes smells which they dont like..
If a canadian says..Did you have Indian food today..understand that your clothes stink
Also, these people are very punctual towards time, so be on time
Think before speaking, talk less and talk sensible, every word coming out of your mouth is critically analyzed.
