The Alberta govt. has announced today that it will give $400 per head to all residents of Alberta by the end of this year.

This is due to the huge surplus the province has got due to the oil boom.

Statistics show that Alberta has been a boon to immigrant since 1980's, do you feel that right now it is at maximum growth level or job opportunities are going to last for a long time in Alberta. Oil boom is not something which has come to Alberta today. Do you find any new activities developing or why so much advertising for Alberta (esp Calagary) is making rounds.

Talking to people working in the oil & gas sector, I am told that many companies have invested in new projects which are expected to continue till 2015. People are confident that the boom will continue. Right now there is a shortage of people in the oil & gas sector especially engineering professionals, accounting, etc. How far they recognize foreign experience is to be seen especially for new immigrants. For people who have been in Canada for more than 2 years, you guys can definitely try here thro' agencies or maybe a short visit would not be bad.

Companies like Syncrude, Suncor, Bentel, etc. require many engineers for sure.

Whether it is the peak or not, I don't know. I have been in Canada for just about a year now nor am I qualified to predict anything.

Many people I know are getting good jobs. It is not only Calgary but also places like Fort Mcmurray especially where the maximum investment is taking place. Many people with their families stay here in Calgary & work in Fort McMurray during the week. Companies offer flights to some employees on Monday morning & bring them back on Thursday/Friday. Some companies have buses running.

Edmonton is also a good place. It is nearer to Fort McMurray than Calgary is.
