Very simple - just look up the net or the various plans offered by various service providers. Buy a calling card, and call the Call Centre. Tell them U want to activate a new service. And be firm when talking to them, they'll try and sell you the sun and moon. :D

Now since you got the fone from India, it probably a GSM fone so U have to go with either Rogers or Fido

I need ur advise on a similar q.

1. Im landing in near future from the Middle East . I ll have 2 buy a tri band phone here which can work in Canada (CAD 240/- Samsun X 620)

2. If I was 2 take 1 yr subsciption with FIDO / TELUS would they offer me a free phone

What benefit does either option have over the other 1 ?I m still 2 buy the phone here...........

Check the offers here:

Telus
http://www.telusmobility.com/on/promotions/index.shtml

Fido
http://www.fido.ca/portal/promos/personal/2for1_20051101/en/promotion.shtml

Generally, you can get a basic cell phone on a 1 year contract, and a high end phone on 2-3 years contract from service providers in Canada.

Check out Rogers http://www.Rogers.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK and Sprint http://www.sprint.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK too

Keep in mind, only Rogers & Fido (aka Rogers, since Rogers bought out Fido) are GSM in Canada, the others are CDMA or TDMA

Check this one -

There's a Canadian Buy/Sell web site Red Flag Deals (www.redflagdeals.com). People sell all types of fone's here. Personally I've bought & sold some stuff from this site and am pleased
